A memorial Mass is scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 15 at Assumption Catholic Church for Edward J. Schiel, 82 of Roswell who passed away Jan. 10, 2000 at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center.

The Rev. Robert Getz of Assumption Catholic Church will conduct the service. The remains will be interred at St. Joseph Cemetery in River Grove, Ill.

Edward was born May 19, 1917 in Topeka, Kan., to Jacob and Emma Kaberline Schiel.

His parents preceded him in death, as well as a sister, Catherine Shepp.

He married Evelyn Luszcz on April 4, 1959 in Chicago. She survives him at the family home.

Other survivors include a sister, Lorraine Etter of Kingsport, Sun City, Fla., and numerous nieces and nephews.

Schiel had been a Roswell resident since 1980, and was a member of Assumption Catholic Church. He retired in the transportation business after 30 years. Schiel had served in the U.S. Army Air Force with the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Schiel’s memory to the Poor Clare Monestery, 809 E. 19th St., Roswell, New Mexico. Arrangements are under the direction of LaGrone Funeral Chapel.
