Leona Kilber, daughter of Leonard and Karolina (Baszler) Kilber, was born January 23, 1927 on the family farm near Mannhaven, ND where she grew up and received her education. During her teenage years she worked for a time at the local clothing store.
On November 9, 1947, Leona married the love of her life, Othmer Isaak, at Hazen. They made their home in the Hazen area until 1967 when they moved to Bowdon where her husband managed and they later owned the local grain elevator. Through the years, Leona worked as an Avon and Tupperware dealer. She also worked as a cook for the Bowdon and Hurdsfield cafes for several years. Following Othmer’s death on July 23, 1984, Leona continued to reside in Bowdon.
She was a member of the Bowdon Lutheran Church and was very involved in the 4-H program, serving as 4-H leader for a number of years.
The things that gave Leona the most joy were crocheting, sewing quilts and gifts for her grandkids, baking and spending time with family. She had the biggest heart, and would do anything for her grandkids.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Myra (Gene) Suckut of Bowdon and Carol (Rodney) Rexine of Fargo; 4 sons, Donald (Paulie) of Broadus, MT, Jerry of Jamestown, Tim (Gloy) of West Fargo and Clyde (Stephanie) of DeForest, WI; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Nestor (Jeanette) Kilber of Stanton.
Leona was preceded in death by her husband, Othmer; her parents; daughter, Susan; 2 sisters, Frieda Miller and Esther Reinschmidt; and 6 brothers, Ed, Ruben, Eldor, Bernard, Wally and Calvin.
