Visitation for Hans will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Friday, August 12, 2011, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, with a Funeral Mass for family and friends at 8:00 PM at the church.
Hans was born in Aesch, canton of Lucerne, Switzerland, on January 17, 1960, the son of Hans and Marie Kunzil. He married Mary Hise in Decatur, on June 23, 1898. She survives.
Hans was a Senior Electrical Engineer at Archer, Daniels, Midland Company, working at the James R. Randall Research Center. Prior to joining A.D.M. in 1995, he was employed by ABB Turbine Generator Co., in Switzerland, and first came to Decatur for the installation of the co-generation plant at A.E Staley Co.
Prior to coming to the United States in 1995, Hans was a 2nd Lieutenant in the Swiss Army. In his free time, in Decatur, he and his wife Mary were neighborhood volunteers for the American Heart Association.
Hans is survived by his wife: Mary Hise Gut; one son: Michael, and one daughter: Heidi, both at home, and the family dog: Crixus. His mother: Marie Kunzil Gut, one sister: Monika (Martin) Henseler, 3 brothers: Willi (Katarina Farkas) Gut, Erwin (Rita) Gut and Edi (Irene) Gut; one god-child: Sandra Henseler, and several nieces and nephews, all reside in Switzerland.
Memorials may be made to the Hans Peter Gut Memorial Fund, c/o Hickory Point Bank I Forsyth, IL.
