Melvin Joseph Neuendorff passed away at his home in Bernardo Sunday November 8, 2015 after weekend visits by loving family and friends. He was born November 16, 1923 in Bernardo to Anton and Jolean Braden Neuendorff. He married Doris Jean Cizek at St Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus May 12, 1959.

Funeral service was celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, November 13 at St. Roch Catholic Church in Mentz with Deacon Doug Tromblee and Deacon Chuck Glynn officiating. Burial followed services in St. Roch Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Henneke Funeral Home.

Melvin loved his family and enjoyed every gathering, visit, and domino game he could get into. He ate and breathed baseball and loved to reminisce of playing professional baseball. He later played for the Bernardo Hurricanes, which he also managed. He spent time on the Pacific Front in World War II, and was the recipient of the Purple Heart medal. He and Doris Jean have four wonderful children Tony, Ann, Patrick, and Robert.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife Doris Jean, his parents, his brothers Floyd and Leland, and his sisters-in-law Doris Jane and Doris, brother-in-law, Daniel Cizek.

His children Tony and Tamalyn of Bernardo, Ann and Jimmy Poehl of Dripping Springs, Patrick of Katy, and Robert and Annette of Brenham survive him. Also surviving him are his brother Billy Joe and sisters-in-law Lucile of Columbus, Joyce Cizek Watson of Missoula, Montana and Gladys Cizek Davis of Coppell, eight grandchildren: Preston and Douglas Neuendorff of Bernardo, Caitlyn and Lexi Poehl of Dripping Springs, Ryan Neuendorff and wife Beth, who are stationed in Spain with the Navy, Mindy Neuendorff of Dallas, and Justin and Wesley Neuendorff of Brenham, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Melvin enjoyed his long life living and volunteering in his community and for his church. He was a faithful member of St. Roch Church, Sons of Hermann, and Bernardo Fire Department. He loved spending time with his family and being outdoors. He especially loved playing golf, fishing and watching and keeping score at baseball and softball games.

Pallbearers were Preston, Douglas, Justin, Wesley, Ryan, Rusty, Jeffrey, Fred, and John Neuendorff. Honorary pallbearers were Melvin's morning golf group.
