Irwin A. Berg, age 87, of Brandon, SD, passed away Monday, July 27, 2015. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 31, 2015 at George Boom Funeral Chapel in Brandon, SD. The family will gather to greet friends for visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, July 30, 2015 at George Boom Funeral Chapel in Brandon, SD. The family has asked that memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org) in Irwin's memory.

Irwin Berg was born October 6, 1927 to Melvin and Carrie Berg in Yankton, SD. He later moved to Baltic, SD and graduated from Lyons High School in 1945.

Irwin was united in marriage to Rose Roberts on March 25, 1950. To this union the couple was blessed with six children.

Irwin enlisted in the United States Army in 1946 and was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas until his tour of duty during the Korean War. He was later stationed in Germany, June 5, 1955 to May 17, 1958. He served his first tour of duty in Viet Nam, April 11, 1963 to May 11, 1964. He received a Purple Heart medal for wounds received in operations against a hostile force in the Republic of Viet Nam. Irwin went on to serve a second tour in Viet Nam before retiring from Service as a Command Sargent Major in August 1970.

Irwin later divorced and married Imogene (Plonsky) Varvel on December 1, 1969. The couple resided in Des Moines, Iowa where Irwin was a warehouse worker for AGI Groceries. He retired from the warehouse in 1990. Imogene passed away on August 18, 1985 from lung cancer.

On August 27, 1986 Irwin was united in marriage to Marjorie Norwood. The couple made their home in Des Moines, Iowa where they enjoyed camping and visiting family and friends. After selling their home and making camping a full-time occupation, they visited all but the New England States during the summer months and wintered in LaBelle, Florida during the winter months where they enjoyed square dancing and making new friends.

In February 1993 the couple decided to give up camping full-time and made their home in Alva Florida. In 2001 they moved to Sebring, FL where they often entertained family and friends who visited. They decided to move to Brandon, SD in 2010 to be closer to family.
