ROYAL – Robert E. Osterbur, 87, of Royal passed away at 10:50 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 5, 2015) at Country Health, Gifford.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2015, at St. John Lutheran Church, Royal, with Pastor Jay Johnson officating. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Royal. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Freese Funeral Home, 302 E. Grand Ave., St. Joseph, is in charge of arrangements.

Robert was born July 31, 1928, at Royal, the son of John and Catherine Huls Osterbur. He married Gerry A. Shortsleeve on Oct. 18, 1980, at Royal. She survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Henry and Martin Osterbur; and two sisters, Anna Busboom and Bertha Osterbur.

Robert worked for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. He also worked for Ploeger and Associates. He graduated from the University of Illinois and received his master's from Iowa State University. He was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Robert enjoyed golf, traveling, yard work and growing vegetables.
