Harlan Charles Geiger was born July 20, 1937 in Amana, Iowa, the son of Harry and Jane Schwalbe Geiger. He graduated from the Amana High School and attended Iowa State University and the University of Iowa. He served with the U.S. Army Reserves. Harlan and Margaret Rettig were married on August 24, 1963 in Amana. The couple resided in the same home Harlan was raised in and Margaret still resides there today.

Harlan was employed for many years with the Amana Farms, retiring from there. He also did a lot of carpentry work, building furniture, and also worked with the Die Heimat Hotel project in Homestead. He always enjoyed working on numerous home projects with his sons. He liked to write poems for his grandchildren, played the accordion, and grew rhubarb in his garden. He often extended a helping hand to many of his neighbors and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
