Harlan was employed for many years with the Amana Farms, retiring from there. He also did a lot of carpentry work, building furniture, and also worked with the Die Heimat Hotel project in Homestead. He always enjoyed working on numerous home projects with his sons. He liked to write poems for his grandchildren, played the accordion, and grew rhubarb in his garden. He often extended a helping hand to many of his neighbors and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
