Dorothy Haberkamp of Elgin A funeral service for Dorothy Haberkamp (nee Heim), 79, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Elgin. Rev. Martin Balzer will be officiating. Interment will be private in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Arlington Heights. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. today, at Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park St., Elgin. Dorothy passed away peacefully Thursday, Aug. 31,2006, at Sherman Hospital, Elgin. Born April 15, 1927, in Roselle, to Andrew and Minnie (nee Schmale) Heim, she spent her childhood in Wheaton, attending Queen Bee School and Wheaton Community High School. She worked at the Chicago Title & Trust Co., until she married Leonard Haberkamp on July 30, 1955. Last year they celebrated their 50th anniversary. They lived on Seegers Road in Arlington Heights for 36 years, and attended St. John Lutheran Church, Mount Prospect. In the 1970s Dorothy was the Leader for the Up and Doing 4-H Club. She taught her many skills of knitting, embroidery and craft making. Dorothy and Len started Haberkamps Treasures in the 1980s and sold at the Kane and DuPage County antique shows, they also sold at the Kane County Doll and Toy Show. Since 1985, Dorothy and her daughter, Carol sold together at craft shows, sometimes every weekend. Painting original wood items, cut by Leonard in his workshop. She and Len also enjoyed traveling, especially visiting son Don, when he attended auto/diesel college in Colorado. Dorothy was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Elgin, where she enjoyed hearing her cousin, Pastor Balzer preach. She is survived by her husband, Leonard; daughter, Carol (Ed) Mazur of Gilberts; son Don (Diana) Haberkamp of Bartlett; granddaughters, Karissa and Katie; grandsons, Jacob and Eddie; and sister, Barbara Heim of Wheaton. She was preceded in death by her parents; and younger sister, Judy. Dorothy enjoyed her grandchildren so in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran School Booster Club, Elgin or Illinois Neurofibromatosis Inc. For information, 847-741-1128.
