He was owner and operator of the Fort Granite and Marble Co. and served two terms on the City Commission from 1961-65.
Mr. Fort was active in Pampa's political activities up until the time of his death.

His fine sense of humor was many times interjected along with serious comment in letters to the editor concerning municipal and county governmental activities.
Lonzo Paul Fort was born April 11, 1905 in Clearwater, Tex.
He moved with his family to Pampa from Dallas in 1945. He had served with the Texas Employment Commission in Dallas for five years prior to his transfer to Pampa as manager of the local employment office.
He resigned that post in 1951 and established the Fort Granite and Marble Co. which he had operated since that time.
Mr. Fort was an ordained Baptist minister and served a number of churches throughout the Texas Panhandle area. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pampa.
He is survived by his wife, Ganell of the home, two daughters, Mrs. Kay Macartney of Pampa and Mrs. Jeanette Fish of Van Nuys, Calif. and two sons, Michael A. of Pampa and L. Gene of Amarillo. Eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive.
Funeral services in charge of Carmichael-Whatley Chapel will be in Lamar Full Gospel Assembly Church with the Rev. Gene Allen officiating, assisted by the Rev. Claude Cone, pastor of First Baptist Church.
