Tom England died peacefully on July 16, 2015 after a long, wonderful life. He was born in Dallas on June 2, 1926 to Thomas L. England, Sr. and Elizabeth England Schnelle. A graduate of Highland Park High School, Tommy attended SMU where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. From there he began a highly successful career in commercial and residential real estate development in emerging areas of the city. Tommy was ahead of the times as a prominent developer of multi-family residential real estate. In the sixties, he astutely selected several properties on which to build amenity-filled luxury apartments. Tom's innovation, creative entrepreneurship, and commitment to excellence were evident in all his projects. He introduced the concept of private clubs at many of his premier developments in various areas of the city. He freely shared his time and expertise with many aspiring real estate developers who sought his advice. In 1956, he married the love of his life, Jo Biggers, which was a defining moment resulting in a happy and meaningful life. Tommy and Jo enjoyed a 58 year marriage while raising three wonderful children. Tommy treasured family time and making great memories. Affectionately known as "Hawk" by longtime friends, Tommy was renowned for his charm, witty sense of humor, and legendary gin rummy game. He loved to golf, travel and share stories as only he could spin them. A timeless gentleman with an ever-present twinkle in his eye, Tommy's playfulness amused and delighted all. He made every person feel important. He was always happy and truly delighted to see his friends whether it was a long time friend or someone he had just met. He was a member of Brook Hollow Golf Club, Dallas Country Club, Coon Creek Club, Idlewild Club and Terpsichorean Club. He was an usher at Christ The King Catholic Church for over twenty years. Preceding him in death were his parents and his sister, Helen England. Survivors include his wife, Jo; sister, Betty England Sanford; daughters, Susan and husband Henry Coke, Kyle and husband Garry Gibbons; son Tommy III and wife Carolyn; grandchildren, Louis Weber IV and wife, Caroline, Andrew Weber, Garrett, Catherine and Laura Elizabeth Gibbons, Thomas IV and Brannan England. The family extends special gratitude to Juan Aranda and Anita Rodriguez for their loving care and devotion. A Memorial Service will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church, 8017 Preston Road, Dallas, Texas, 75225 at 11:00am Tuesday, July 21, with the Reverend Monsignor Donald F. Zimmerman officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be given to the charity of your choice.
