Sharon Rose Penny, 75 of Empire passed away peacefully on Friday, December 25, 2015 at home surrounded by members of her loving family.
Sharon was born on February 24, 1940 in Sault Ste Marie, MI to the late Harold “Buddy” and Eunice (Pezet) Duggan. She married Dale Ashley Penny Sr. on August 14, 1959 in Pontiac Mi. Together they lovingly raised six wonderful children.
Sharon enjoyed gardening, bird watching and accumulated a collection of wind chimes that is beyond words. In retirement, she traveled the country extensively with her husband including three trips to Alaska. Her greatest love was seeing her family flourish and particularly watching her grandchildren grow to raise families of their own. Her eyes would glow with pride whenever she talked about the numerous athletes, musicians and artists that make up her family.
Sharon was a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church and enjoyed attending mass and she spoke often of the fellowship she found there.
Surviving Sharon are her children Laura (Raymond) Salisbury, Dale Penny Jr., Sharolyn (Don) Hendrick, Kevin (Tina) Penny, Thomas (Teletha) Penny, David (Christie) Penny, grandchildren, Bryan, Marc, Stephen, Dale, Sharon, Penny, Michael, Jonathon, Annabeth, Jessica, Jacob, Christopher, Krystal, Kaitlyn and Amanda, great grandchildren, Juliana, Wyatt, Connor, Lila, Henry, Greg, Skylar, Chloe, Zackary, Hunter, Alyse, Benjamin, Lily and Layla, brother Lawrence and many other loving family members and friends.
Sharon is preceded in death by her parents, husband of 53 years, grandsons, Kevin and Michael Penny, and her siblings, Patrick, Gerald, Colleen, Maureen and Dennis.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Sat. January 2, 2016 at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Empire with visitation held one hour prior. Burial will take place at a later time at Empire Maple Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Philip Neri Catholic Church.
