Jeanette Kennar, 85, a resident of the Hillsboro community, died Sunday evening, June 22, 2014 at her home.

JEANETTE MAXINE KENNAR was born on April 18, 1929 in Walla Walla, Washington, the daughter of the late Conrad and Magdalena (Woidt) Butherus. She was the 9th of 10 children and received her education in the Walla Walla community, having been a graduate with the Walla Walla High School Class of 1957. She was united in marriage to George A. Kennar on February 16, 1957 in Walla Walla, Washington. George and Jeanette celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary this year.

George was employed by Monsanto and the Kennar family relocated six times during George's 37 year career. In 1965, they moved from Seattle, Washington to Wilbraham, Massachusetts. In 1973 and 1984 they moved from Eugene, Oregon to East Longmeadow, Massachusetts. They later moved back to Eugene before moving to the Hillsboro community in 1992, where they have resided since.

Jeanette worked for Baker Boyer National Bank in Walla Walla until September 1953 when she entered the University Of Washington B.A. College. She was a member of the St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Forest Grove. Jeanette was also a member of the Hillsboro B.P.O.E. #1862 Elkettes, the Orenco Bridge Club and the Hillsboro Senior Center Bridge Club. Among her special interests, Jeanette enjoyed sewing, knitting, stamp albums, scrapbooks, photo albums and playing bridge. Jeannette and George especially enjoyed visiting U.S. Presidential homes, national parks and museums during their many travels.

Jeanette is preceded in death by her parents, Conrad and Magdalena Butherus; her son Christopher Kennar and eight brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her husband, George A. Kennar, her son and daughter-in-law, Dave and Rose Kennar, of Bangkok, Thailand; her daughter and son-in-law, Caroline and Paul Madden, of Hillsboro, Oregon and her sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Phillip Sterry, of Kailua, Hawaii. Jeanette is also survived by four grandchildren; Chris and Jennifer Madden of Hillsboro, Oregon, Marcella and Camila Kennar of Bangkok, Thailand as well as many nieces and nephews.
