Jean Carolyn Craighead George, born into a family of naturalists, was an American writer of more than one hundred books for children and young adults, including the Newbery Medal-winning "Julie of the Wolves" and Newbery runner-up "My Side of the Mountain". Her daughter, Twig George, continues to write books for children about nature and animals.
