John Bruce Sisterman, 74, of Warrenton, died with his family at his side Saturday Jan. 9, 2016, at Fauquier Hospital.

He was born Nov. 10, 1941, in Windom, Minn., to late John H. and Shirley Sisterman.

Mr. Sisterman graduated from Holy Ghost Fathers Seminary in Ann Arbor, Mich., in 1959. He served in the United States Air Force from 1960 to 1968. During this time, he met his wife, Carol Bihler, in Holyoke, Mass., where they married in 1966.

Mr. Sisterman continued his career working for the Central Intelligence Agency with diplomatic communications. He traveled and lived in various places around the world before settling in Warrenton in 1985. After retiring in 1991, he enjoyed vacationing and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

He was a 32nd Degree Mason for 34 years with the Ancon Lodge in Balboa, Panama, which was chartered by the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite.

His wife, Carol, and a son, John R. Sisterman, preceded him in death.

Survivors include three children, Mark Sisterman and wife Leti, Jennifer Arbogast and husband Brette and Geoffrey Sisterman; his brothers, Roger Sisterman, Robert Sisterman, Richard Sisterman, Michael Sisterman; a sister, Mary Ann Kempf, and seven grandchildren, Brooke Arbogast, Kirsten Arbogast, Brycen Arbogast, Aedan Sisterman, Harmony Sisterman, Gavin Sisterman and Alyssa Sisterman.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 15, when the funeral will begin at St. James Episcopal Church in Warrenton. Burial will be at Bright View Cemetery near Warrenton.

Memorial contributions may be made to his late wife Carol’s favorite charity, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, Tenn. 38148-0142.
