Thomas and Florena (Grohe) Bower welcomed an infant son 22 January 1886 in Camanche Iowa. They named him Roy Bower.

Roy Bower married Clairone Rector 25 June 1927 in Indianapolis Indiana.

Roy Bower began his career as a student telegrapher January 1903 with the Burlington railway in Clinton Iowa. He passed the telegrapher's exam in September 1903 and began work in Naperville Illinois.

In 1944 Roy Bower moved to Quincy Illinois where he worked as a freight agent. In 1954 he received a 50 year service pin. When he retired in 1956 Mr. Bower had held 40 positions working as both telegrapher and freight agent. He was a member of the Traffic and Transportation Club.

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Bower belonged to the First Presbyterian church.

Roy Bower's pastimes included golfing and he was an ardent sports fan overall. He was the member of various fraternal organizations including: Quincy Consistory, Quincy Elks Club, Quincy and Canton Illinois Kiwanis Clubs, Bradford Illinois Masonic Lodge 514.

Roy Bower passed away at a Quincy Illinois hospital. Reverend Robert Brown led funeral services held at a local funeral parlor, with interment at Greenmount cemetery in Quincy Illinois.
