Maria Elena Castillo (Pee Wee), 65, of Aurora, died peacefully at home, and went to be with her Lord on August 17, 2006, with her loving husband and sons at her side. She was born on January 11, 1941 in San Benito, TX to Oscar and Virginia (Cantu) Carrera. She was a resident of Aurora and a member of Arch Bishop Romero Church.
After her retirement from AT&T Communications, Maria was very much involved with community activities, politics, as well as President, Vice President, and active member of the Northern Illinois Tejano Cultural Society of Aurora, IL.
Maria was a wonderful, loving, and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She will be greatly missed and always in our hearts. This is not a "good by" only that we will see each other again in Heaven and you will be standing waiting for us with open arms saying "Welcome Home!"

Survivors include her loving husband, Israel "Kookie" Castillo Jr. of Aurora; sons, Joel (Gloria) Castillo of Montgomery, and Michael A. Castillo of Aurora; seven wonderful grandchildren, Michael A. Jr., Danielle N., Miranda A., Joel Jr., Jessica, Julian and Jenna; sisters, Rosie Olivarez of San Benito, TX; Diana (Rudy) Guiterrez of San Antonio, TX; brothers, Omar (Mary) Carrera of San Benito, TX; Juan Armando (Chumy) Carrera of San Jose, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews, especially Luis and Anna Carrera of Rockwall, TX; as well as many, many loving friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Oscar Carrera Jr. and sister, Irma C. Ventura.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you send donations to the American Cancer Society.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 PM on Monday, August 21, 2006 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, 620 5th Avenue, Aurora, with Father David Engbarth officiating. Interment will be private. The family will be receiving guests on Sunday, August 20, 2006 from 3 PM to 7 PM at
