2005 obituary. SCARBOROUGH - Anna T. (Nicolai) Wilson, 86, passed peacefully at the Maine Veterans' Home in Scarborough on Sept. 3, 2005 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Portland on May 11, 1919, the daughter of Rocco and Nicola (Ferrante) Nicolai. Anna attended Portland schools. She worked in the South Portland shipyard during World War II. Anna and her sister Catherine traveled to New York City and worked during the war. They frequently reminisced about celebrating the end of the war in Time Square. Anna will be remembered as a devoted mother, a Gold Star mother. She was a member of the Gold Star Mothers' organization. Anna enjoyed gardening, cooking and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Anna is predeceased by her husband Linwood Wilson, Sr., who passed in 1997; son, Orville Mathews, USN, who passed in 1969 during the Vietnam War era; parents; two sisters; five brothers; and granddaughter April Dawn Shone. Visiting hours will be from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 7 at Hay & Peabody Funeral Home, 749 Congress St., Portland. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8 at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Federal Street, Portland. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
