Marian (Mickey) O'Connell died peacefully in Naples, FL on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at the age of 83. Born in St. Paul, MN she was the daughter of Frank and Ruth Kunsman. Mickey, the youngest of three daughters, was preceded in death by Noreen (Bunny) Dotty and Joan Genin. She graduated from Saint Joseph's Academy in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1949.
Mickey met Patrick O'Connell in 1952 and were inseparable ever since. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary right before Patrick died in 2014. She enjoyed being a proud Marine officer's wife focused on raising her family, and spending time stationed near several bases including Quantico, VA Camp Pendleton, San Diego, CA, Camp Lejeune, NC, Headquarters Marine Corp, Monterrey, CA, and Philadelphia, PA.
Mickey had many hobbies including bowling, playing bridge, sewing and cooking. Mickey also enjoyed volunteering in the school office at St. Mary Magdalen School in the early 1980's. In 2004, Mickey and Patrick retired to Naples, FL.
Mickey is survived by her three children: Kimberly A. DiGiacomo (her husband, Robert), Amy E. Wasko (her husband, Jeffrey), Jean M. Allen (her husband, Jesse), nine grandchildren and two great grandsons, as well as her beloved niece, Linda Deeb of Brook Park, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband Patrick O'Connell, her parents Frank and Ruth Kunsman and her two sisters, Joan Genin and Noreen (Bunny) Dotty.
Friends may call between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 26th at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803.
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Mickey's life will be held at 11 a.m. at Saint Mary Magdalen Church, 7 Sharpley Rd., Wilmington, DE 19803, followed by interment in St. Joseph on the Brandywine Cemetery.
