Betty Jane Bollinger, 81, of Manchester, Md. She was the daughter of the late Ira and Lula Wolf Braun, died in her home in Manchester, surrounded by her family, on September 18, 2005, following a lengthy illness. She was lovingly cared for by her sister Brenda Myers, her children and Carroll Hospice. Born on May 11, 1924, the third of eight children, she was raised on the family farm near Glen Rock. At age 16 she graduated from Glenville High School. During W.W.II she worked in a tool and die factory making airplane parts. She also worked as a seamstress. In 1942, she married Calvin Henry Bollinger. After his return from Germany as an infantryman during W.W.II, they made their home in Manchester, Md. They enjoyed a happy life together for 54 years until his death in 1997. In 1984 she was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent treatment. As a 20-year breast cancer survivor, she appreciated every additional day granted to her. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed weekly games with her friends. She loved to read and filled her home with books. After working as a seamstress for many years, she used these skills in her retirement to make doll clothes, quilts and children's clothing. A loving grandmother, she enjoyed spending time with each of her nine grandchildren. As a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church for over 50 years, she was active in the Woman's ELCA, the Sunday School and the Church Library. She was frequently found on 'work days' at Immanuel constructing items for donation. She was known for her quick wit, beautiful smile and infectious laugh. Survived by her daughters and son-in-laws, Sandra and Charles Zeiler of Baltimore, Kay and Steve Eierman of Thomasville, Della and Dean Leister of Millers, Md. and Lisa Strong of Baltimore; Sons and daughterin-laws, Gerald and Tami Bollinger of Lyons, Pa and Dwight and Dorothy Bollinger of Manchester, Md.; grandchildren, Airman Kevin Bollinger, David Bollinger, Anne Zeiler, Aaron Bollinger, Alex Bollinger, Matt Leister, Carole Anne Bollinger, Kendall Strong and Mark Leister; sisters, Dorothy Cox of New Freedom, Helen Wilhelm of Shrewsbury, Brenda Myers of Hanover, Martha Holmes and her husband Robert of Naples, Fla.; and brother Ira Braun, Jr. of Philadelphia.
