Geraldine "Geri" H. Kittel, age 92, passed away on January 27, 2016 at Sylvan Crossings on Evergreen, Wausau.Geri was born October 11, 1923 in Wausau, the daughter of the late Charles and Helen (Piepenburg) Pauls. She attended school in Wausau, graduating from Wausau High School.On June 9, 1942, Geri married Norman Kittel, her best friend and with whom she shared an everlasting love. One month following their marriage, Norm was called to serve our country in World War II. This is the only time they were separated throughout their marriage spanning 61 years.During the war, Geri worked at Marathon Battery in Wausau; Walgreens in San Antonio, TX; and Lebanon Paper Box Factory in Lebanon, PA. In the early fifties, she began working for Wausau Printing. In 1967 she changed careers working for Wausau Insurance until retiring in 1982.Following retirement, Geri and Norm enjoyed traveling throughout the US, Canada, and Europe. Geri enjoyed spending time with her family and friends at "Hilltop", their cottage on Lower Post Lake. In addition to boating and fishing during the summers, she and Norm made lasting friendships snowmobiling with the WI Valley Sno-Jets during the winters. Other pastimes included crafting, reading, and gardening. Besides her family, remaining in contact with friends was very important to her. She was a member of American Legion Post 10 Auxiliary, Subchapter 115 of AFSCME Retirees, Retired Women of Wausau Insurance, Friends of NCHC, a life member of Burns Post 388 VFW Auxiliary, and an honorary member of WI Valley Sno-Jets. Her Mission Evangelical Church family and her faith played an important role in her life. Geri will be sadly missed by her loving family and friends.Survivors include two daughters, Barbara (Robert) Schneider of Lac du Flambeau and Diane (Daniel) Prey of Waupun; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Kittel, Wausau; six grandchildren, Todd (Kim) Kittel, Casper, WY, Kelly (Mike) Findley, Oconomowoc, Kimberly (Roy) Jensen, Pleasant Prairie, Pamela (Donald) Ehrhardt, Rosendale, David Prey, Appleton, and Cory (Stella) Prey, Deerfield; nine great grandchildren, Brooke and Bobby Jensen, Marlowe Jo Findley, Morgan and Jaydon Ehrhardt, Madison Prey, Rosemary and Quinten Kittel, and Reina Grace Prey; and special friends, Georgia and Danny Braatz, Linda Kittel, and Luella Norton, all of Wausau. Geri was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Norman; a brother, Wesley Pauls Sr.; her son, Melvin; and a grandson, Brian Kittel. The family wishes to thank Georgia, Danny and Linda for their loving care and devotion to Geri and also Faith in Action for providing transportation and companionship. The family further wishes to express its gratitude to the staff of Sylvan Crossings and Aspirus Care and Hospice Services. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at Mission Ev. Church, T12780 N County Road WW, Wausau. Entombment will be in Restlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, Wausau.
