Shirley was born on Nov. 29, 1932 in Bryant, IA, the daughter of Morris and Alma (Voss) Petersen. She graduated from Charlotte High School in 1949. She married Pierce Smith in 1978 in Los Angeles, CA. She worked for the US Government for several years, TEAC electronics, and was also homemaker and remarkable cook. She was a member of the Lutheran Faith. She enjoyed her extended family, pets and had a love for all animals.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Pierce, and two sisters, Donna DeSaw and Jean Marie Petersen.
