A SEVERE STORM

Caused a Funeral to Suspend Yesterday at New Berne.

NEW BERNE, N. C., May 15 -- Special. -- This afternoon, as the funeral procession of Mrs. Jonathan Whaley reached the grave at Cedar Grove cemetery, a severe rainstorm came down in such violence that all but a few persons left in search of shelter, and the services could not be concluded for several minutes.

At the same time a stroke of lightening ran into the livery stable of M. Hahn & Co., down town, killing a valuable mare standing in her stall, and shocking one or two of the attendants, but not seriously.
