INJURIES FATAL
TO PIQUA RACER
John McMaken, 26, of
727 Adams Street Dies
in Winchester, Ind.,
Hospital.
Injuries, suffered when his racing
oar skidded, overturned while on a
qualifying lap at the Winchester,
Ind., speedway Sunday proved fatal
to John McMaken, 26, of 727 Adams
street Tuesday evening near 9:30
o'clock at the Winchester hospital.
McMaken was seriously hurt and
the true extent of his injuries were
not determined due to his condition,
being injured internally. He was
rushed from the scene of the crackup
to the hospital where medical
aid and treatment were administered
In effort to save his life.
For several years, McMaken was
Piqua's only "knight of the dirt
track speedways," appearing at
Greenville, Winchester, Dayton and
other dirt track racing plants, enjoying
fair success.
He was born in this city arid is
the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Mc-
Maken of 727 Adams street. Other
survivors include his widow, Mrs.
Norma McMaken, one son, Richard,
his maternal grandmother Mrs. E.
J. Furnace, all of this city as well
as a number of distant relatives.
The body was returned to the
W. W. Wagner Funeral Home this
morning. Friends may call to pay
last respects at the home of the
deceased's parents, 727 Adams street
Thursday evening.
