Norman Wegner Dies In Flaming Trailer Home

Norman A. Wegner, 22, son of
Mr. an d Mrs. Frank Wegner of
Carroll, was burned to death about
1 a. m. today in the explosion of
an oil heater which
destroyed his trailer
house at Arion.
Mr. Wegner, who was employed
in electric signal maintenance service
of the Chicago & North Western
Railway, had been at Arion
only since the first of the year.
For the preceding six or eight
months he had worked on the
line between Ames and Des
Moines.
The explosion apparently
occurred as Mr. Wegner was
lighting the stove, according
to Amos Sinn, Crawford
county coroner.
Mr. Wegner lived alone in his
trailer home. People passing b y
saw the fire and called the fire
department.
The body was brought to the
Olerich Funeral home here, where
the rosary will be prayed at 8
o'clock each night before the final
rites:
Services will be at 9 a. m.
Thursday at SS. Peter and
Paul's church. Burial, with
military honors, will be in
charge of Maurice Dunn Post
No. 7, American Legion. In
the parish cemetery.
This is the second time that
tragedy has struck the Wegner
family in the last few years. Norman's
young brother, Larry, was
killed in an automobile accident
in May, 1949.
Mr. Wegner was born in Carroll
May 30, 1929. He attended SS.
Peter and Paul's school.
For two years prior to entering
the employ of the railway, he had
served in the U. S. Navy.
Surviving with his parents are
one brother, Merle, and two sisters,
Mary Ann and Charlotte, all
at home, and his grandmother,
Mrs. H. F. Wegner, of Carroll.
He was a member of SS. Peter
and Paul's church and the Holy
Name society of the parish.

Rites Held For
Norman Wegner
Funeral services for 22-year-old
Norman A . Wegner, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Frank Wegner, were held
at 9 a. m. yesterday at SS. Peter
and Paul's church.
The Rev. Frank Greteman
offered requiem mass for the
youth who was burned to
death early Tuesday morning
in the explosion of an oil
heater which destroyed his
trailer house at Arion. He
was working in electric signal
maintenance service of the
Chicago & North Western
Railway there.
Mr. Wegner, who had served
two years in the navy, was buried
with military honors in SS. Peter
and Paul's cemetery. Military
rites were in charge of Maurice
Dunn Post No. 7, American Legion.

Pallbearers, former navymen,
were all in uniform. They were:
Oliver Mosman, LaVerne Olberding,
Orville Olberding, Eddie
Wilkens, George Kitt and Pat
Mitchell.
Among out-of-town relatives
and friends at the services were:
Ed Wegner of Council Bluffs, his
daughter, Mrs. William Metzger,
Louisville, Neb., and his son, Eddie
Wegner, Council Bluffs; Mr.
and Mrs. Andy T. Miller, Storm
Lake; Mr. and Mrs. Mart Kanne
and family Dedham: Dan Cluck,
Slater, and Doug Moore, Sac City.
