Maxine passed away peacefully in her sleep of lung cancer after a brief stay at the Hospice House in Auburn.

Maxine was raised in Sabattus, and was a graduate of Sabattus High School. On April 7, 1946, she married Hector Emile Nadeau. They lived for a short time in Lewiston, then, after the birth of their son, Terence, they moved back to Sabattus, their hometown, where she was a homemaker. Prior to her marriage to Hector, she worked briefly at Cushman Shoe.

Maxine was always known for her honesty, although always said with much affection and/or humor. She was not your typical "cookie cutter" mother and grandmother, although she did enjoy knitting baby items to donate to various charities; as well as crossword puzzles and word searches. In her early years, Maxine enjoyed roller skating and dancing.

She was best known for speaking her mind. She could have been the true inspiration behind Hallmark's "Maxine" greeting cards. She was never bashful with her opinions. You always knew where you stood with her. Humor was a huge part of her life, and her laugh was infectious. Immediately upon hearing of her terminal illness, she told the nurses at the hospital that the staff had been much too quiet, and she was going to teach them how to swear; and, that they had better pay attention, as she didn't have much time.

She was predeceased by her husband, Hector Nadeau, in 2001, and a brother, Gerald Scott. She was also predeceased by her first husband, Adrian Roux, who died in WWII.

She is survived by her son, Terence Nadeau, and his wife, Tori, of Gray; a sister, Muriel, and her husband, Eugene Deslauriers of Sabattus; grandchildren, Stephanie Mains and her husband, Travis, of Freeport, Todd Nadeau and his fiancée, Tina Spier, of Topsham, and Ben and Heath Austin of Gray; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, who knew her affectionately as "Aunt Mac". She is also survived by her companion dog, Brandy, and special neighbors, Linda and Michael Foster, who were always there for her.

Donations may be made in her memory to the Hospice House, 236 Stetson Road, Auburn, ME 04210
