Edna Victoria Berthe Dix, 95, of the Carriage Inn, Huntsville, TX, went to be with her Lord on May 5, 2012. Edna was born March 17, 1917 in Houston, TX, daughter of Edward Jackson & Mary Sarah Jane Waldrop Berthe. Edna graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown, TX. She was one of the first members of the famous R.E. Lee "Brigadier" Girls Drum & Bugle Corp. Edna graduated from Massey School of Business in Houston, TX. On February 6, 1942, Edna married James Dix and happily celebrated their marriage of seventy years this year with their family. Edna was a lifetime member of the First Christian Church. She was a lifetime member of the American Rosie the Riveter Association. Edna worked from 1942 to 1944, during wartime, at Humble Oil & Refinery's Machine Shop on the bolt and shaper machines. Edna was also a lifetime member in the Huntsville Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the Magna Charta Dames. She is a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Daughters of the Republic of Texas and the Red Hat Society of Huntsville, TX. An avid artist, Edna received many painting awards throughout Huntsville, TX. Edna is preceded in death by her parents, Edward Jackson & Mary Sarah Jane Waldrop Berthe; sister, Eileen Berthe Sheffield; brother-in-law, Ernest "Bud" Sheffield and niece, Barbara Sheffield Woods. She is also preceded by her three sons, Edward Frank Sloan, James Ernest Dix and Walter Eugene Dix. Edna leaves behind to cherish her memory, husband, James Dix of seventy years of Huntsville, TX. Also, she leaves her daughter, Leaila Criste Dix Wells and husband, Holley of Baytown, TX; daughter-in-law, Norma Ewers Sloan of Austin, TX and Mary Lynne Dix of Houston, TX. She leaves her beloved grandchildren Paige Sloan Watts and husband Mike of Round Rock, TX; Darrian Criste Wilcox of Deer Park, TX; and Robert Holley Wells and wife Tracy of Baytown, TX. The great loves of her life were her four great-grandchildren, Kathryn Sloan and Caroline Sloan Watts of Round Rock, TX, Sawyer James and Waylon Holley Wells of Baytown, TX. Edna leaves her great-nephews and their families; Mike Woods of Alvin, TX, Mark Woods of Baytown, TX, and Matt Woods of Mt. Belvieu, TX. Edna's family wants to sincerely thank her wonderful Care Giver, Pat Oliphant. She truly blessed all of our lives. Services for Edna Dix will be Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at the First Christian Church, Huntsville, TX with the Rev. Kyle Dennis officiating. Burial to follow at Brooke Cemetery, Huntsville, TX. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 8, 2012, 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home, Huntsville, TX. Pallbearers will be Larry Cruz, Weldon Fisher, Bill Green, Clyde Murray, Jack Parker, Dwayne Moullere and Jerry Turlington. Honorary Pallbearers are First Christian Church Bible Study Class, Red Hat Society and The Carriage Inn, Huntsville, TX.
