Antonio left Portugal in about 1911 and sailed to Brazil to be with his brother, Father Joseph Cacella. Antonio had been studying in seminary and was sent to be with his brother during an unstable time in Portugal. He contracted some kind of jungle fever and Joseph sent him to Massachusetts where several family members had already emigrated. He left from Manaos, Brazil in August, 1913, arriving in New York aboard the Ship SS Stephen on 1 Sept 1913. He cleared customs and travelled to New Bedford, arriving by there shortly thereafter.
