Son of John Philip & Susanna Elizabeth (Albrecht) Bachman. Single Brother. Eldest son of John & Susanna. Suffered from many ailments as a child. After finishing school, he studied organ building with his father. Because work in organ building was slow, he went to Philadelphia in 1822 to learn chair-making and then on to Yorktown to perfect himself in the trade of turner. He had to give up this work after a short time because of weak lungs, and returned to Lititz where he taught school for one year. The next year he taught at Graceham, MD. Returning to Pennsylvania in 1827, he taught in the Lebanon vicinity, where he became critically ill during the school year. He returned to Lititz where he remained ill for 14 weeks, not expected to live, but he unexpectedly recovered and returned to his school position. On Aug. 21, 1830, he “fell ill with fever of the gallbladder" and died at the home of his parents. He is buried 4 spaces to the west of his father in God's Acre.
