George J. Brenner "Pic" "Pickles," 89, Kokomo, passed away at 9:26 a.m. Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at his residence. He was born Oct. 17, 1926, in Rockport to George A. and Eleanor (Kirchgessner) Brenner. On July 3, 1969, in Anderson, he married Barbara L. Brenner. She preceded him in death on Jan. 7, 2009.
He graduated from Rockport High School in 1944. He served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He worked for the Kokomo Tribune for 47 years, Elks Club for 25 years, Miller's Tavern for 18 years, and the Sly Fox Saloon for 32 years. Pic enjoyed gaming, horse racing, playing cards, also boating and spending time at his cottage at Lake Shafer. He attended St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Kokomo and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Reynolds.
Survivors include a daughter, Sheryl Tash, Kokomo; son, Joe (Cindy) Keesling, Monticello; daughter, Beth (Joe) Lyons, Goose Creek, South Carolina; daughter, Kathy (Wayne) Bandy, Kokomo; grandchildren, John Robert Keesling, Betty (Keesling) Lee, Billy Vallid, Jeffrey Bitner, Lori Linzey, April Keesling, Robert Keesling, Hunter Keesling, Joe Lyons Jr., Carol (Lyons) Broadway, Katryna Bandy, and Aleeza Bandy; and several great- and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, James Robert Keesling; son-in- law, Robert Tash; and two sisters.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St., with Pastor Paul Sutherland officiating. Burial will follow in Albright Cemetery, with military honors by the Kokomo VFW Military Rites Team. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, three hours prior to the service at the mortuary.
