MARY ALICE SETTLAGE, 84, of New Knoxville died Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 11:51 A.M. at Lima Memorial Hospital, Lima, Ohio. She was born June 23, 1931 in Lima, the daughter of the late George and Thelma (Heald) Figgins. On June 20, 1954 she married Benjamin R. Settlage and he died February 25, 2010.

Surviving are her children: Monica Navarre of New Knoxville, Kevin (Pam) Settlage of Potomac, MD, Mindy Settlage of New Knoxville; her grandchildren: Caitlin (Anthony McGill) Navarre of Bowling Green, Justin Settlage, and Adam Settlage both of Boston, MA; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings: Shirley Daley, Carolyn Babson, and Floyd Figgins.

Mary Alice was a member of the New Knoxville United Methodist Church. She was a 1949 graduate of Lima South High School and received her bachelor's degree from Bowling Green State University. While attending BGSU, she sang with the Sisters in Trio, the BGSU acappella group, and was also active with Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a member of the New Bremen American Legion Post 241 Ladies Auxiliary, and the Auglaize County Retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed bowling and spending time with her friends as a part of the Iris Chapter of the Red Hat Society.

Mary Alice had an extensive teaching career. Over the years she taught in several local schools including Ft. Loramie, St. Mary's–East, Lima, and taught Kindergarten for 26 years in New Bremen before her retirement in 1993.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, April 24, 2016 at 3:00 P.M. at the New Knoxville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Denis Gaertner officiating. Inurnment will follow in Lima Memorial Park, Lima, Ohio.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 23, 2016 from 2:00 until 6:00 P.M. at the church in New Knoxville and one hour prior to the services at the church on Sunday afternoon.
