(Noted as "indigent civilian" on US National Cemetery Interment form.)
Anna was born near Fußgönheim, Germany to George & Barbara Schmitt Wohlfart. In 1871, at the age of 23, she arrived in the United States of America.
Three years later, on 1 Mar 1874, she married William Zenner, a barber & fellow immigrant from Prussia, in Dodge County, NE. Within a year they had a daughter, Anna Wilhelmina Zenner. The family resided in Ashland, NE for a time, then moved to Valentine, NE, where William was tragically killed in a buggy accident in 1892.
Their daughter, Anna Wilhelmina, married James Mangan in 1900. James was employed with the US Army as a civilian plumber. By 1920 the family, which included Anna Maria, was at Fort Crook, NE. When Anna passed away, at the age of 71, the family was under quarantine from the smallpox outbreak running rampant at the time. Due to this restriction, she was unable to be returned to Valentine, NE to be buried with her husband. Anna was instead interred at the post cemetery. Her granddaughter, Ada & grandson-in-law, Charles Taylor (US Army), were later laid to rest at Fort Crook Post Cemetery as well.
