Born on the family farm near the village of Spring Hill, MN; Elfrieda was the tenth of eleven children {five daughters & six sons} born to Peter & Bernadina (Athmann) Braun.

On 20 January 1925, Elfreida married Frank Wengler in Greenwald, MN; he was age 24, she was 23.
