Albert Schirrmacher was born in Tessensdorf, a town in Kreis Stuhm, near Marienburg, West Prussia (now Malbork, Poland). He was the youngest of three brothers, the son of Karl Albert Schirrmacher (born in Mewe, West Prussia - now Gniew, Poland) and Elisabeth Louise Jungar. The family moved to Berlin by the early 1870s, where Albert grew up with his brothers, August and John. John immigrated in 1886, August and his wife Emilie immigrated in 1891, and Albert immigrated with his mother in 1892. The family settled in the truck farming community of Blue Island, outside of Chicago. Albert worked as a janitor at the time of his death at age 25.
