Edwin William Barthel, 59-year-old iron molder of 1100 Scheel Street, died in the Pleasant View Sanatorium at 10:50 o'clock last night following two years' illness. He was employed for many years at the Oakland Foundry Company.
Mr. Barthel was born in Hecker, Ill. On Jul 2, 1888, a son of the late Henry and Mathilda Barthel, nee Hepp. His father was also born in Hecker; his mother in Germany.
Surviving are a brother: Alvin Barthel, East St. Louis and four sisters: Miss Tillie Barthel also of East St. Louis; Mrs. Edna Dahm, 1505 East B Street; Mrs. Anna Stahlheber and Mrs. Margaret Stahlheber, both of Chula Vista, Calif. Three brothers: Ernest, Henry and Louis Barthel, preceded him in death.
He was a member of Local 182, Iron Molders Union.
