Carol Weidauer, 73, of rural Le Mars passed away suddenly Thursday, May 19, 2016 at her home.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church in Merrill, Iowa with Pastor Kolleen Queener officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Merrill, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be after 5:00 p.m. Monday, May 23, 2016 at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars, Iowa followed by a 7:30 p.m. Prayer Service. Visitation will continue Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at the church from 9:30 a.m. until service time.

Pallbearers will be Samantha Weidauer, David Weidauer, Thomas Weidauer, Colin Weidauer, Sara Weidauer, Jacob Spencer, Ava Spencer, Wyatt Spencer and Beau Ohm.

Carol Todd Jans was born December 19, 1942 in Le Mars, Iowa to Leslie and Hilda Todd (Manz) Jans. Carol was baptized and confirmed at the First United Methodist Church in Merrill, Iowa. She graduated from Le Mars Central High School in 1961. Following high school Carol attended Morningside College and later transferred to the University of South Dakota graduating with a degree in Home Economics. Carol was united in marriage to Tim Weidauer on October 8, 1967 at the First United Methodist Church in Merrill while he was home on leave from the Army. Tim was stationed at Augsburg, Germany. Carol served as the Union County Extension Home Economist in Elk Point, SD from 1965 to 1969. During this time she served on the Governor’s Commission on the Status of Women in South Dakota and published a cookbook using commodity foods for the Extension Service. She had also taught Home Economics at Southwestern Community College in Creston, Iowa and Omaha Metro Community College in Omaha.

Carol was a longtime member of the Merrill Methodist Church and later was a member of Le Mars United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Vesper Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in Le Mars and the International Rainbow for Girls where she received the Grand Cross of Color Degree. She had volunteered as a 4-H open class foods judge since 1965. She was an avid knitter, crocheted, and quilter. Carol also collected sewing accessories, notions, antique buttons, quilting fabric, milk pitchers, cups and saucers.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Tim Weidauer of Le Mars; a son Jeff Weidauer and his wife Treasa of Le Mars and their children Samantha, David and Thomas; a son Greg Weidauer and his wife Elizabeth of Starbuck, Minnesota and their children Colin and Sara; and a daughter Nicole Spencer of Le Mars and her children Jacob, Ava, and Wyatt.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Hilda Todd (Manz) Jans; and a brother, Steve Jans.
