Rachel Berens, 85, of Fort Collins died Friday, April 3, at Springcreek Health Care in Fort Collins.

She was born May 22, 1912, the oldest of 11 children of Jacob and Marie K (Sitzman) Geisick in Greeley.

On Oct 14 [1928], she married John H Berens. The couple had been married 58 years at the time of Mr. Berens' death in 1986. The couple had nine children.

Mrs. Berens spent the majority of her life in Colorado in the Bracewell, Windsor and Greeley areas. She then moved with her family to Quincy, Wash., where they farmed for 12 years before returning to Colorado. She and her husband farmed for many years before retiring in the Windsor areas.

Mrs. Berens' interests were cooking for her family, crocheting, gardening and watching the birds come and go around the bird feeders.

Survivors are three daughters, Marietta Miller of Fort Collins, Jeannette Clark of Yakima, Wash., and Janice Tyler of Ephrata, Wash.; three sons, Don and Art Berens, both of George, Wash., and Harold of Quincy, Wash.; three sisters and four brothers; 17 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. Three sons, William, Gerald and Eugene, are deceased.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Stoddard Funeral Home. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.--Greeley Tribune, Tuesday, April 7, 1998
