FURMAN – Henry J., 89, Johnstown, passed away March 7, 2016, at Memorial Medical Center. Born July 12, 1926, to Valentine and Sophia (Kwarta) Furman at the family home, Jones Alley, Cambria City. Preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Walter, Carl and Casimir "Jim"; and infant brothers, Francis and Michael. Henry is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Josephine (Varmecky) Furman; children, Carol Benford, Martin, June (Frank) Janakovic, Jane (Tim) Henderson and Antoinette (Dave) Steinbring; grandchildren, Matthew (Carisa) Benford and Paul Benford; and great-grandchildren, Emery and Preston Benford. Brother of Louis Furman, Leona Furman, Edward (Mary Claire) Furman and Ann Marie Furman. Also survived by sisters- in-law, Angela Furman, Regina (John) Delic, Stella Varmecky and Blanche Varmecky; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Henry was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Henrico and the USS Chilton. Retired from Bethlehem Steel and former owner and proprietor of Henry's Tavern, Lower Yoder Township. He was a lifelong member of the former St. Casimir Catholic Church and a member of Resurrection Parish. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home Inc., 710 Broad St., where vigil service will be held. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Resurrection Parish, Father George Gulash, officiating.
