Allen Brawner, 73, of Lafayette, died on Monday, May 30, 2016, at St Elizabeth Central hospital.
Born as Hoopeston Illinois’ New Year’s Baby on January 11th, 1943, to the late Emmett Brawner and Ethel (Huffman) Brawner, Allen attended Hoopeston Elementary & Middle School and Jefferson High School in Lafayette, IN. Allen served in the United States Marine Corps during Viet Nam and was honorably discharged on January 31, 1967 and married Joyce Lynn Linder in November 1971 in Hoopeston Illinois.
Allen worked for Southern California Rapid Transit District for 11 years. He was granted a real estate license in September of 1976 and brokered real estate for Peter Rosenthal Associates in Glendale, California. He was currently the Resident Manager of W.H. Long in Lafayette.
Allen was a consummate “people person”. He never allowed anyone to be a stranger for longer than a few minutes. He had a lifelong passion for trying to catch “the big one” and took great joy in taking his children and grandchildren fishing over the years.
Allen was a member of Navy Club Ship 12, serving as the Senior Executive Officer since 2011. He was also a lifetime member of the Brian Bowman VFW Post 1431 of Crawfordsville; and a former member with American Legion Post 11 and Moose Lodge of Lafayette.
Surviving are his wife Joyce, a daughter Rachelle (Thomas Niermeyer) Janssen of Crown Point, IN, two sons Eric (Susan) Brawner of Magnolia, Delaware and Jim (Carol) Brawner of Lafayette, as well as a daughter Michelle & son Rick of California from a previous marriage. Also surviving are a sister Carolyn Hendricks of Lafayette & sister-in-law Clara Brawner of Crawfordsville. In addition, he is survived by seven grandchildren; Andrew, Ashley, Devin, Mariya, Nick, Jessica and Jorden.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents Emmett & Ethel Brawner of Hoopeston, IL, brothers Mick Brawner of Texas & James “Jim” Brawner of Crawfordsville, IN, and brother-in-law Kenneth Hendricks.
