Georg Tobias Paul first appears in America in the church book records of St Michael's and Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Phildadelphia, married 1 July 1862 to Eva Barbara Dockenwadel (various spellings and transcriptions, including Dockewadley, Tockenwalderin, etc).

Eva Barbara and Georg Tobias Paul attended the first Christmas services after their marriage and is listed in the "Am Weinachten" record of the congregation who attended at St. Michael's & Zion Church Philadelphia in Dec 1762, showing George Tobias Paul age 25, 9 years "im Land" - suggests born 1737 and year of immigration was 1753; wife Eva Barbara age 27 (born 1735), 8 years "im Land" (arrived 1754).

A Georg Friedrich Dockenwadel arrived in September 1754 at Philadelphia aboard the ship "Richard and Mary" known to be traveling with his widowed mother and at least 5 children, originating from Zazenhausen, Germany, southeast of Stuttgart; An unproven hypothesis is that Eva Barbara Dockenwadel may be related in some way to this Dockenwadel, who in 1775 is mentioned in a local newspaper as residing in Upper Saucon Township, Lehigh County, the same township that 3 sons of Eva Barbara appear, Martin, Valendin, Michael PAUL in the 1788-1790 tax rolls and their children. Sons Michael & Valentine Paul were confirmed in 1784 at Jerusalem Lutheran Church (West Salisbury) nearby just north of Upper Saucon.

Four sons of Eva Barbara Dockenwadel and Georg Tobias Paul appear in the St Michael's and Zion Ev. Lutheran Churchbook baptism records between 1763 and 1768, in Philadelphia:

1) Martin, born 15 June 1763, baptized 26 June 1763, by Pastor Handschuh, witnesses Martin Schweitzer and wife Magdalena.

2) Valentin, born 2 February 1765, baptized 10 March 1765, by Pastor Melchior Muhlenberg, witnesses Valentin Jaeger and wife Maria Magdalena.

3) Joh. Georg, born 28 August 1766, baptized 7 September 1766, by Pastor Melchior Muhlenberg, witnesses Georg Eble (Eppele) and wife Maria Juliana.

4) Joh. Michael, born 13 August 1768, baptized 21 August 1768, by Pastor Schultz, witnesses Martin Schweitzer and wife Magdalena (same witnesses as for brother Martin).

----- Note: Juerg & George typically interchangeable in early German church and civil records; for Michael mother is shown as Anna Barbara, thought to be Eva Barbara; Eva Barbara's surname spelled differently each time in St Michael's church records (over the course of 8 years prior to marriage - early on Dakawadler, in marriage record Tockewalder, and over a half dozen different variations in between; thought to be originally Dockenwadel); Pastor Muhlenberg was the first German missionary and organizer of the early German Lutheran and Reformed congregations in North America, known as the father of the North American united Lutheran church. --------

8 March 1784 • Jerusalem Lutheran Church of West Salisbury, West Salisbury, Northampton, Pennsylvania
-Sons Michael & Valentine Paul were confirmed in 1784 at Jerusalem Lutheran Church (West Salisbury) in class of 57 led by Rev Jacob VanBuskirk, a student of Melchior Muhlenberg and first American-born Lutheran minister, known for his personal magnetism, who ministered in several circuits in Lehigh Valley and Allentown, Pennsylvania from 1767-1800;

Georg Tobias Paul has died before 1784 - The 1941 "200 Year Anniversary Edition of the Jerusalem West Salisbury History" adds the pastor's notes for the 1784 confirmation class that state that Michael and Valentine Paul are "sons of deceased G[eorge] Paul"

Jerusalem Lutheran Church in West Salisbury was about 3 miles or so north of Blue Church in Upper Saucon, and it is in this neighborhood where the Paul family is presumed to have resided.
