Rita Hackman Aylor loved to knit and crochet, make ceramics, go bowling, do gardening and participate in church events.

"She stayed active. She enjoyed the people around her and had lots of friends," said Mrs. Aylor's daughter, Janine Aylor of Florence.

Mrs. Aylor, 77, of Florence, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.

She was the secretary at St. Paul Church in Florence for 25 years.

"Family was very important to her, and her grandchildren were very important to her," said Mrs. Aylor's daughter.

Church also was an essential part of Mrs. Aylor's life.

"She was very active at church and participated for years in the church's annual variety show," said her daughter. "She was on the church festival committee every year.

"She also taught religion classes to special education children and took sign language classes to help her do her church work."

Mrs. Aylor was "very creative and very hands-on," said her daughter.

"She made a lot of ceramics. Christmas was a very special time for her and she made a nativity set for every one of her grandchildren," her daughter said.

"She was an excellent seamstress, and one year she made all of us kids a comforter-quilt for our bedrooms."

Mrs. Aylor was an ardent bowler.

"There are bowling trophies in the house," noted her daughter.

Mrs. Aylor's husband, James Dutton Aylor, preceded her in death.

Other survivors include sons, Dutton Aylor and Steve Aylor, both of Florence, and Guy Aylor of Noblesville, Ind.; another daughter, Renae Eason of Tacoma, Wash.; sisters, Phyllis Noll of Villa Hills and Marlene Meyers of Edgewood; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at noon Thursday at St. Paul Church in Florence. Visitation will begin at the church at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery in Fort Mitchell.

Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105.
