The Reverend Stanley L. Carlsen, 83, a resident of Ramsey Village, passed away from natural causes on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Monday, November 6 at the Windsor Heights Lutheran Church, 1240 - 66th Street in Windsor Heights. Burial will take place at Glendale Cemetery. Stanley was born, February 18, 1923 in Royal, Iowa, the son of Niels and Martha (Neve) Carlsen. He grew up in Blair, Nebraska where he graduated from Dana College. Rev. Carlsen received his Masters of Divinity from Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota. He married Mildred J. Romer on June 12, 1947 and two children were born to this union. Rev. Carlsen was pastor at Lutheran Churches in Trufant, Michigan and Shelby, Iowa before serving four years as a Chaplain in the United States Air Force. After military service he was pastor in Mason City and Charles City, Iowa before coming to Des Moines where he was pastor at Central Lutheran Church until his retirement in 1988. He had a great sense of humor, always liked a good joke and had a special chuckle. He also enjoyed music, sports and reading.
Rev. Carlsen was preceded in death by his parents, Neils and Martha Carlsen. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mildred J. Carlsen; daughter, Anne L. (Jeff) Toy of Whittier, California; son, Noel (Angela) Carlsen of Murrieta, California; brother, Neils (Natalie) Carlsen of Sommerfield, Florida; sister, Eunice (Homer) Larsen of Cedar Falls, Iowa; grandchildren, Erica, Theodore and Karrie Carlsen; great grandchild, Peyton Carlsen; step grandchildren, Rosa and Karla Rubi and Carlos A. Cabanas; and step great-grandchildren, Isaac and Isaiah Cabanas.
