Joyce Loretta Gilbert Smith, 74, Jonesborough, entered into rest Friday, June 24, 2016 at her residence.
Mrs. Smith was a native of Unicoi and had lived most of her life in Washington County.
She was a daughter of the late D.B. and Hazel Gross Gilbert and was also preceded in death by her husband, Curtis D. Smith, brother, Robert “Bob” Gilbert, brother-in-law, Gene Smith and best friend, Peggy Smith Wilson.
Mrs. Gilbert was a member of the Church of Christ and had retired from Texas Instruments.
She leaves to cherish her memory, one daughter, Debbie Sparks and husband, Carroll, Jonesborough; the joy of her life, her grandson, D.D. Sliger and wife Lauren, Johnson City; special great grandson, Nolan Sliger, Johnson City; special sister-in-law, Pat Gilbert, Maryland; brothers-in-law, Junior Smith, Unicoi, Carlos Smith and wife, Lois, Johnson City, Ken Smith and wife, Betty, Jonesborough and Larry Smith, Kingsport; sister-in-law, Carolyn Guinn, Johnson City; special friend, Rick Sparks, Unicoi and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
An entombment service will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at Washington County Memory Gardens, Johnson City, TN. Mr. Victor Campbell will officiate. Those attending are asked to assemble at the cemetery at 1:50 pm. The family will greet guests at any time at the residence, 3930 Cherokee Road, Jonesborough. Pallbearers will be D.D. Sliger, Stephen Sparks, Wally Sparks, Marty Sparks, Junior Smith, Carlos Smith and Carroll Sparks. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 207 North Boone Street, Suite 25, Johnson City, TN 37604.
