Changed his name to Melville Daniels, from Daniel Melville McMeal. Was a theater manager and launched the career of his daughter, who became Bebe Daniels. He had a medical background also, and worked in that field later.

Father of Bebe Daniels Is Dead

Grand Rapids, Aubust 18 - Melville Daniels, father of Bebe Daniels, famous motion picture actress, died Monday morning at his summer home at Camp lake, 15 miles north of here. Daniels, who was 65 years old, and head of the Daniels Neuropathic Institute, had been in ill health since last winter when he suffered from pneumonia.
He was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., November 7, 1864. He started his system of treatments in Oakland, Cal., but on 1900 opened offices in Richmond, Va., and later in Norfolk in 1907. With his wife he moved to Muskegon, but in 1909 came to Grand Rapids. He was a graduate of Western Reserve Medical college, Cleveland.
Danields was a prominent sportsman and active in Masonic circles. In addition to the widow and daughter, he is survived by a son, who was associated with the institute.
