Elizabeth Betty Banfield, of Topeka, died Friday, February 17 at her home. She was 88.

Mrs. Banfield was a secretary for the state of Kansas in the Food Stamp Division. She retired in 1983 after more than thirty-two years of service.

She was a member of the Church of the Assumption and graduated from Capitol Catholic High School in 1935. She was also a member of Capitol Post #1 of the American Legion auxiliary where she was a past-president and past district chairwoman. She was also Lachapeau of the Forty and Eight and past deputy Chapeau.

Betty was married to John Ralph Banfield on September 1, 1941 at the Assumption Church. Ralph preceded her in death January 30. 1998.

Elizabeth Banfield will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where a parish rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. A graveside service will be at 2:00 oclock Wednesday afternoon at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
