Jerome Clement Dopheide, age 88, of Butte, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2016, at Butte Healthcare Center. He was born October 17, 1927, at Lynch, Nebraska the son of Clem and Louise Dopheide.

Jerome grew up on the family farm south of Butte. Jerome attended Saints Peter and Paul Catholic School through the eighth grade and continued his education at Butte High School, graduating in 1946.

Jerome was united in marriage to Marian Reiser on September 26, 1950, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Butte. Shortly after their marriage, he enlisted in the United States Army and served two years in Korea.

After the service, Jerome returned home to farm, raising cattle and crops south of Butte. He and Marian were blessed with three children, two sons, Stan and Bruce, and a daughter, Audrey.

Marian passed away on September 10, 1987. Jerome later married Georgia Reiser. He continued farming until he retired. During retirement, Jerome enjoyed golfing and was a member of Butte Golf Association. He also enjoyed watching Nebraska Husker sports and Kansas City Royals baseball games. He and Georgia also enjoyed traveling.

Jerome was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Knights of Columbus and served as Grand Knight. He was a board member of both Butte Farm Supply and Butte Implement and also served as a Butte School Board member. Jerome was also a member of Butte Legion Club and was the commander at many military funerals.

When Jerome could no longer live on the farm, he and Georgia moved into Country View Manor Assisted Living in Butte.

Jerome is survived by: his children, Stan (Sandy), Bruce (Deb), and Audrey (Mark) Juhlin; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; wife, Georgia; two brothers, Neil and Charles Dopheide.

Jerome was preceded in death by: parents; step-mother; his first wife; and sister, Francis Kirwan.

Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, June 18, 2016, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Butte. Burial in Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery in Butte. Military Honors provided by American Legion Post 51 and Army National Guard Honor Team.

Monday morning, May 26, 2014 at the Memorial Day services, much to Jerome’s surprise, was honored by the Butte American Legion Post 51 with a certificate of continuous membership for 60 years of service to the American Legion. Certificate read:

Issued in grateful appreciation for faithful and dedicated allegiance to the ideals of The American Legion. Be it known that Jerome C. Dopheide a longtime and dedicated member of American Legion Post 51, Department of Nebraska has been certified to have been a member in good standing continuously for 60 years; and be it further known that such record of consistent loyalty to The American Legion merits the honor of being cited as an outstanding contributor to the programs of The American Legion. In witness whereof, this testimonial of personal gratitude is given under the hand of the National Commander, and duly attested by the National Adjutant, this 15th day of March, 2014.
