LODI - Rae Ann Wopat died on July 25, 2016, at Sauk Prairie Hospital after a four-year battle with cancer. Rae Ann was a private person who fought her cancer with dignity and grace, asking no special treatment or sympathy.

Rae Ann was born on Jan. 3, 1933, to Clair and Ethel Thompson of Lodi, Wis. She attended school in Lodi, graduated in 1951, and worked at the University of Wisconsin until her marriage to Albin Wopat in 1961. Overnight she became the mother of eight, and in the years to come showed courage, perseverance and loyalty to her new family.

Rae Ann was an artistic woman, an excellent seamstress, a great cook and loved driving across the country. She and Al enjoyed decades of curling and card games. Rae Ann said her "best times were on the farm".

Following Al's death in 1983, she continued to travel widely with friends and win regularly at cards. She was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary, attended St. Patrick's Catholic Church, and loved following and sharing her children's achievements.

Rae Ann is survived by her eight children, Mike (Jeen), Jim (Susan), John (Judy), Rick (Ellen), Tom (Kristen), Ann (Rafael), Dave (Alicia) and Ron (Kathy); her brother, Charles Thompson (Karan), and many dear friends.
