Son of Peter Massing (Prussia, Germany) and Barbara Spelze (Prussia, Germany)

Originally buried in Old Saint Magdalene Catholic Church Cemetery. Moved to new location but dates were missing until found on Indiana Death Certificate.

Cemetery notes and/or description:
The original cemetery is located in Shelby Township in the Big Oaks National Wildlife Refuge, formerly the Jefferson Proving Grounds. In 1941, The US government moved the Saint Magdalene Catholic Church Cemetery from its location in Shelby Township, Ripley County, to North Madison in Jefferson County across the street from Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church in order to clear the land for use as the Jefferson Proving Ground. Not all unmarked graves were moved. The Ripley County Historical Society records that the ground where the church stood was leveled and a large cross was placed in memory of those graves not moved. The church was founded in 1847. The map location given for this cemetery is that of the original church cemetery location.
