Considered One of County's Oldest Settlers
Cancer of the Stomach Brings the End--Was Sash and Door Company Employe for Years

John H. Roehr, one of the oldest settlers of Rock Island county, passed away last night at 10 o'clock after an illness of three months duration. He had been seriously ailing with cancer of the stomach and for the past ten days had been confined to his home and bed. Mr Roehr had never complained in spite of his illness and advanced age and had continued with his work at the Rock Island Sash and Door company until taken down ten days ago.

Born in Germany.
He was born Oct. 24, 1847, in Petersburg, Germany. In the spring of 1870, he came to America, direct to Hampton, Ill., where his marriage to Miss Christina Knickrehn occurred on July 18, 1871. His wife preceded him in death nine years ago. He resided in Hampton until 1879, when he removed to Moline, where he lived for twenty-three years. Later, he removed to Rock Island, where he has resided ever since. Since his residence in this city he has been employed at the Rock Island Sash and Door and the Rock Island Lumber companies for the past twenty-two years. Deceased was a devout member of the German Lutheran church and during his residence in the city, has been a regular attendant at that place.

Leaves Large Family
The survivors are his six daughters, Misses Mary and Lillian Roehr at home, Mrs. John Buck of Long Grove, Ia., Mrs. William Friedricksen of Mt. Joy, Ia., Mrs Henry Kuelper of Hillsdale, Ill., and Mrs. Lloyd Shepard of Rock Island and two sons, Henry Roehr of this city and William at home. A sister, Mrs. George Beck of Denison, Ia., and twelve grand-children, also survive. Two children are dead, one having died in infancy and the other fifteen years ago.

The funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the late residence, 1133 Thirty-fifth street at 2 o'clock with services at the German Lutheran church at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. Wilhelm, pastor of the church will officiate. Interment will take place at the German Lutheran cemetery.
