Wilhelmine C. "Lena" Heesch, of Avoca, passed away, Saturday, January 23, 1943, after a lingering illness.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 27, at the First Lutheran Church in Avoca, with the Rev. Joseph Gerrtt officiating. Burial was in Graceland Cemetery, Avoca, Iowa.

Wilhelmine Caroline Siemsen was born October 5, 1881, in Vitzdorf, Island of Fehmarn, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, the daughter of Charles and Catherine (Willprett) Siemsen. She immigrated to the United States, to Pottawattamie County, Iowa, with her mother when she was three years old and lived on a farm near Minden. She married John William Heesch on March 4, 1900. Together they farmed seven miles southwest of Avoca for eight years. They then farmed near Minden for seven years, until the spring of 1915, when they purchased a farm near Avoca. In 1929, they retired and moved to Avoca. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Avoca and the Ladies Aid.

Surviving her husband, John of Avoca; four daughters, Alma (Clarence) Pittmann and Velma Heesch, both of Avoca, Welma (Arno) Schroeder of Treynor and Matilda (Adolph) Engel of Council Bluffs; four sons, Arthur, Raymond and Herbert Heesch, all of Avoca and Rudolph Heesch, stationed with the Army in Louisiana; and eleven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter and one son.
