CVRKEL, Joseph J., 88, of Johnstown, passed away on August 4, 2016. He was born on April 28, 1928 in Johnstown, the son of John J. and Susan (Hrbal) Cvrkel. Preceded in death by his parents; sisters Susan Lech, Irene Cernak, Helen Gagan, Mary Bomba and Jane Yewcic; and brothers John Cvrkel and Ed Cvrkel. Survived by loving wife of 43 years, Dorothy (Bernosky) Cvrkel, Johnstown; son Mark J. Cvrkel and wife Mary (Bereschok) Cvrkel, Glen Mills, Pennsylvania; granddaughter, Ashley H. Cvrkel, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and grandson, Ryan M. Cvrkel, New York, New York. Also survived by sister Carol Stager and husband James; and William Cvrkel, all of Johnstown; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Joe was a U.S. Army veteran and retired employee of Conemaugh Engraving. He was a long-time member of Resurrection Parish (formally St. Columba) in Cambria City. Joe was an avid gardener known in the Johnstown area for his vegetables including asparagus as well as his nut and fruit trees especially his blueberries. He took pride and pleasure in working hard, making wine, and making people smile. He will always be remembered for his quick wit and generosity. The family would like to thank the staff at the Amber Spring Laurel Wood and Heritage Hospice for their compassion and kindness over the past year. At Joe's request there will be no viewing; however, family and friends are invited to attend a funeral Mass 10 a.m. Monday at Resurrection Parish, Fr. George Gulash.
